At the 4th night of the Manila Fashion Festival, designers Vic Barba, Randy Ortiz and Rhett Eala showcased their latest collections to the viewing public. What has gotten everyone mesmerized though are the parade of beauty queens and Filipina Supermodels that paraded on the ramp. Joan Bitagcol, Jodilly Pendre, Marie Ann Umali, Alaiza Malinao, Nicole Cordoves joined reigning Miss Universe Philippines Maxine Medina on the ramp.Rhett’s collection was all about capturing the heart and charm of a beauty queen in his “Queen” collection.

I have to say that the Binibining Pilipinas 2017 photoshoot was already underway several days before and the set design was very ornate.
According to several sources, the photoshoot by Ramond Saldaña for the national costume was made during the fitting presentations with Madame Stella Marquez Araneta. For those that came in prepared (with the finished ternos/costumes, headresses and other costume props), this meant that they were taken photographs on a set that was decorated with vintage chandeliers, flowers, pearls, lamps & candles, trinkets and huge gold frames to highlight the lavishness of the national costumes. As seen in the photo above of a certain candidate (in the single digits), the outcome photos is going to be faboosh!
So let’s just wait until the final reveal, but I can honestly say that the pics will definitely be something to look forward to…
What would happen if you splice the genes of Maxine Medina with that of Miriam Quiambao to clone another human being? Well you get Maria Gail Devora Tobes, your Binibini 3 this year…
Maria Gail Devora Tobes is not only blessed with good looks but brains as well. The 5’6″ beauty is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine who hails from Northern Samar. She has a classic Filipina features the likes of which is comparable to past Binibining Pilipinas Universe titleholders but don’t let that fool you. This girl is not a greenhorn in pageants. She was former Miss SCUAA (State Colleges and Universities Athletics Association) in 2015 and is now aiming for bigger fish to fry at this year’s Binibining Pilipinas.
Which gets me intrigued, will she have the poise and elan of Miriam Quiambao or the charm and grace of Maxine Medina? I am even more curious to know her better as the pageant finals approaches. I am sure that this lady from the Visayas is one to watch out for. After all, my moles tell me that she is a favorite of some Bb. Pilipinas insiders…
The New Silk Road Fashion Group and Miss World organization signed an agreement for Sanya to host the 20147 edition of the Miss World pageant…
In a news report wx.abbao.cn, the agreement was signed February 27th. This would be the 7th time that Sanya, China would host the Miss World finals after hosting in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2015. No confirmed dates on the start of arrivals for the competition.
It is rumored that the pageant finals is to be held on December 2nd this year. And should the case that the Miss Universe pageant be held on the same month, then pageant girls who are competing in both competitions would have to choose either MW or MU.
Outgoing Miss World Stephanie del Valle of Puerto Rico will crown her successor in the resort paradise. She was crowned last year on the outskirts of of Washington DC, at the MGM National Harbor.
Earlier this March (before coming home to her Paris homecoming), Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere traveled to Bali, Indonesia to shoot her YOU.C1000 Vitamin Drink commercial.
The 5’8″ French beauty comes in a long line of reigning Miss Universe titleholders who traveled to Indonesia for this endorsement. Previous Miss Universe winners like Olivia Culpo, Paulina Vega, Dayana Mendoza and Pia Wurtzbach were all able to go visit Bali to shoot a commercial for the drink…
Binibini 20 Christagale Borja is one of the most underrated girls in this year’s competition. A common rookie mistake as this British-educated lass is more than just surface beauty alone. Christa has worked with one of the biggest global brands from one of the fashion capitals of the world, London with Marks & Spencer, a retailer of clothing and accessories for men’s, women’s and kids, food and groceries, etc…
Here’s the list of 10 things that you should know that makes this lady very interesting.
• She’s almost 5’10” in height
• She measures 34-23-34
• Moved to Great Britain at the age of 14.
• Graduated First Class Honours (Magna Cum Laude) at her university in London
• Advocate for animal rights. She volunteered for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home for over 3 years.
• Crowned Miss Philippines UK in 2015 and started modelling for international brands.
• She enjoys hip-hop dancing and cheerleading. In college, she competed for British Future Cheer whilst finishing her studies.
• She’s an advocate for women and children’s rights.
• Supporter of LGBT community
Education, height, body, face and intelligence, she all got those. So start keeping an eye on this lady, she is definitely one of the underdogs that could surprise you come finals.
This is the second and final part of a 2-part series on male pageant winners and candidates who have appeared in the adult film industry.
While most male pageants are doing their best to elevate the image of the male pageant industry, everyone could find a lesson learned with the past errors illustrated in this post.
Warning: reading beyond this point would not be safe for work or young children. Continue reading “Male Pageant Winners & the Adult Film Industry Pt2”

Those are the names of the titles held by American representatives to Miss World and it still continues to evolve as different national franchise holders changes the titles. Earlier this month, the national directorship of the pageant has changed to Elizabeth Safrit and her mother Lynne Safrit. Elizabeth was a former Miss World 2nd Princess to Rolene Strauss of South Africa. This is the fourth change of franchise holder in a span of 6 years. Alexandria Mills had a different parent org when she won the Miss World title back in 2010 and in 2012 nobody knows who held the license for the US. The US has changed license holders/ national directors at least a dozen times!
* UPDATE (January 30, 2018) – Elizabeth Safrit announced in a Facebook post that she and her mother, Lynne, would be parting ways with the Miss World organization and would no longer hold the US franchise for the pageant. Her letting go of the MW franchise marks the 13th franchise change for the Miss World USA/ America title.
Their case is not unique as the Philippines also have passed on the license from Miss Republic of the Philippines, Mutya ng Pilipinas, Binibining Pilipinas and Miss World Philippines titles. The most recent change was the transfer of the franchise from Cory Quirino to Arnold Vegafria after she held the franchise for 6 years.

Several days back Binibini 12 Angelique de Leon had a meet and greet with her Angeliqueens over dinner. During the FB live video of the said meet and I greet, I still saw the same bubbly and cheerful lady I met a year ago in Jakarta.
To say that Angelique has personality is an understatement, she has loads of it that it overflows. I am still quite at awe at how she can easily put people at ease with her. Although I still see her bubbly personality, I am also seeing a different sense of womanly confidence. Her transformation for the 2017 pageant is visible in the way she speaks and moves. She is a bit more refined these days yet still have that energy around her. The personality is still there but held back to show a more mature vibe. I know you don’t get a sense of that in photos but it can be observed in her videos.
I am confident that a crown is up for grabs for this woman. Which crown I am not yet sure. I have high hopes that Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental or Supranational is within her reach. Although I wouldn’t also mind her getting the Miss Universe Philippines title instead…
