The Miss Universe Evening Gown Top-Scorers

Today’s post in about the 10 Miss Universe candidates who nabbed the highest televised scores in the pageant final’s evening gown competition.

Back in 2015, on my old Sash Factor blog, I wrote a number of  interesting articles on the  Miss Universe pageant. One of the most fascinating researches we ever made was to track down the highest swimsuit and evening gown scorers in the Miss Universe competition. We posted this several years back and now we are revisiting this topic today.

Note that these scores were taken when the telecast would flash the scores of the girls onscreen, something that was taken out during the 2000’s.

10. Lana Buchberger, Canada

9. Verna Vasquez, Curacao

8. Sushmita Sen, India

7. Paula Andrea Betancourt, Colombia

6. Angela Visser, Netherlands

5. Taliana Vargas, Colombia

4. Wendy Fitzwilliams, Trinidad & Tobago

3. Minorka Mercado, Venezuela

2. Alicia Machado, Venezuela

1. Carolina Gomez, Colombia

Did your favorite girl/s made the list? Was there a candidate that you were surprised to earn top scores in the Miss Universe pageant? Let us know on the comment section below.

We’re working on the top-scorers for the swimsuit competition next. So watch our for that.

MANicMondays: Alessio Costantini – Mister Suisse Francophone 2017

Alessio Stefano Costantini – Mister Suisse Francophone 2017 & Mister International 2018 top 5 finalist – is our featured hunk for today.
The 6’1″ model posed shirtless for the lenses of photographer Adriano Artexcellence in a photo-essay in Switzerland. Alessio is a sports enthusiast and enjoys travelling. He is also a karate black belt holder and works as a private fitness consultant.

MANicMondays: The Men of Avengers Endgame

Holler to every Marvel fan who geeked over the Avengers Engame movie over the past few weeks! Today’s MANicMondays post is a bit of a gratuitous shout-out to the men of the Avenger Endgame movie.
Today’s post is a quick departure from the pageant scene to bring in some pop culture into the blog.

Here is Chris Evans doing a Marvel/ DC crossover…

What if instead of the women being objectified for their sensuality, for once let’s flip the coin towards the men. The artist Murilo Pozzi has just launched a collection inspired by these superheroes in partnership with BtchsStore. The characters appeared in the illustrations wearing swimming trunks and almost leaves nothing to the imagination…

And oh by the way, we’re also throwing in a couple of DC hunks in the mix! Enjoy!

Nick Nolte: Bare, Bold and Brazen

Today is not your typical #MANicMondays! For the third time that we are posting about Mister International Thailand and 2019 Mister International top 10 semifinalist, Nick Nolte.

If you thought that the previous posts were hot, then this will make your day boil. Fair warning to those who are underage and get easily offended by the male form, you can opt out now.

The Universe at MOA, Part 2

For today we are continuing yesterday’s post on the exceptional creations by designer Mak Tumang for Miss Universe Catriona Gray.
Designer Mak Tumang created 9 very exquisite creations for Miss Universe Catriona Gray all displayed in their glory in SM Mall of Asia in Pasay.
NOTE: The descriptions of the outfits were taken from the exhibit’s info-boards displayed alongside the Mak Tumang creations.
For pageant fans and fashion connoisseurs, here’s a closer look at the finer details of the exhibit!

MAYON | Miss Universe Finals | December 17, 2018 – Inspired by a Filipino national wonder – the Mayon Volcano (Blogger’s note: I have always thought that this Lava Gown was named “Magayon”)

ALON | Araneta, Cubao Parade | February 23, 2019 – a tribute to the beautiful and pristine seas of the Philippines which are among the world’s most diverse.

PERLA ORIENTE | Homecoming Concert | February 24, 2019 – drawing inspirations from the historic and romantic epithet of the Philippines: Pearl of the Orient Seas.

SINAG | Binibining Pilipinas Finals | March 19, 2018 – symbolizes the sun’s rays found in the Philippine flag and the Filipino’s concept of hope.

To say that the exhibit was a trip down memory lane was an understatement. It brought back memories of when I was part of the group that knew Catriona would be joining Binibining Pilipinas 2018 months before she actually showed up for screenings. This blogger remembers seeing a detailed sketch of the gown and the “three Stars and a Sun” earcuffs. All of which we held on tight to keep it a secret, more so for her national costume.
The build up to the Miss Universe pageant was an experience to cherish. And this was reflected in the Mak Tumang exhibit at the Mall of Asia. This blogger hopes that this would find its way to Araneta, Cubao in the future. It would be a celebration of sorts not only in time for Binibining Pilipinas but of how far the Filipino genius can go…

The Universe at MOA, Part 1

We may have missed the Mak Tumang Exhibit in Pampanga but we were able to catch the Mak Tumang: The Universe at MOA just several days ago!
On exhibit are some of the most iconic pieces that Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray wore from her journey in Binibining Pilipinas to Miss Universe. These outfits showcase the wealth of embellishment and detail that designer Mak Tumang made for Catriona’s wardrobe.
9 painstakingly made outfits, 9 masterpieces of Filipino ingenuity and passion, one marvelous exhibit. These are truly magnum opi of a fashion genius!

BITUIN | ABSCBN Ball | September 29, 2018 – An ode to the shining stars which are also prominent components of the Philippines Flag.

SAMPAGUITA | Homecoming Parade | February 21, 2019 – an ode to the Philippine National Flower and Leaf – the Sampaguita and Anahaw respectively.

Paru-Paro | Miss World After Party | December 18 2016 – Inspired by the Philippines as one of the great reservoirs of diverse and endemic fauna (Blogger’s note: this is also sometimes referred to by fans as the Mariposa)

CORALES | Homecoming Press Conference | February 20, 2019 – Depicts the Philippine coral reefs which are home to a unique marine biodiversity.

ADARNA | Miss Universe Prelims | December 13,  2018 – Inspired by the Ibong Adarna – a mythological bird prominent in Filipino folklore.
These are just some of the items on exhibit. There will be more in the second part of this post.
On a personal note, I would have to say that the Adarna gown was the most (literally) shiny and brilliant among the creations alongside Sinag. Upon closer inspection the Adarna gown is truly remarkable in terms of the depts and detail. I am also enamored with the richness of the embroidery of the Sampaguita jumpsuit. It reminds me of the embroidery heritage of Lumban, Laguna.
Check out the second part of this post coming very soon!
NOTE: The descriptions of the outfits were taken from the exhibit’s info-boards displayed alongside the Mak Tumang creations.

Rome Phanuphong as the Asian Christian Gray

NSFW Warning! For mature audiences only! Before you proceed further, please note that some photos in this post are very provocative (to put it mildly) and may not be best to be seen in your work office computer…
Mister Supranational Thailand 2016 Rome Phanuphong Wanthamat posed for Harder Magazine Issue 07 in a steamy S&M/ Bondage themed shoot. The Thai hunk never shied away from steamy and racy shoots as is shown in various stages of dress (or total lack of)… Last warning before the jump! Heavenly Bodies Met Gala 2018: The Best Dressed

Every first Monday of May, the Metropolitan Museum brings together an exhibition of fashion with an opening gala/night that is dubbed to be the Superbowl of Fashion. This year’s event was so magnanimous that it is considered one of the biggest Met Gala to date. It is no wonder that days after, it still floods social media with almost a million tags on Instagram.

So today I am putting up a list of my picks of the best dressed (according to theme) women in the event.

Zendaya in Atelier Versace. This is my personal pick for the Best Dressed celeb of the night. It wasn’t overkill but it delivered the message well. Her armor outfit reminded me of the Dior FW 2006 haute couture collection by John Galliano…
Jennifer Lopez in Balmain… Gigi Hadid in Versace…
Lana del Rey channeling the Our Lady of Sorrows in Gucci, while Priyanka Chopra was going ‘Knights Templar’ in Ralph Lauren…
Stella Maxwell is all Divine Mother in Moschino while Amanda Seyfried was an angelic vision in Prada…
Blake Lively was fully decked in Atelier Versace while Rose Huntington went simple in Ralph Lauren…
Katy Perry stole the red carpet with her massive wings, she is wearing Versace. Star of the night was undoubtedly Rihanna in her Papal outfit by Maison Martin Margiela by John Galliano.

Mi & Me Luxury Nails

If you immediately knew who those fingers belong to without even reading the caption, then you know that those are Catriona Gray’s. She had these nails during the Binibining Pilipinas finals night last March. While I know that this has been a long overdue post, I still would like everyone to acknowledge the artist who made these fantastic nail art:  Mimi Q. PhotoCollage of the Day: Farah Abu Accessories by Farah Abu

The PhotoCollage of the Day feature today is on the very talented accessory designer from Mindanao: Farah Abu.

I would be totally honest in saying that the first time I met her, I was speechless with her sense of style. Wearing a simple LBD accentuated with a very fancy body jewelry and chic earrings, she stood out during the national costume shoot of then Binibini 20 Catriona Gray. Little did we know then that she together with Jearson Dimavivas and Jojo Bragais would be making the outfit that would win the Pitoy Moreno award for Best National Costume in Binibining Pilipinas 2018.

Here is the designer in her show in the US… and yes that on the far right is Alaiza Malinao

As a tribute to each of these talented designers, I am featuring them one by one on the blog. Visit her official Facebook page at Farah Abu Accessories by Farah Abu. But in the meantime, check out these lovely creations of hers…

PhotoCollage of the Day: The Miss Universe 1st Runners Up from Colombia

Today’s photocollage features the six Colombian women who almost became Miss Universe.

The first trio of ‘Virreina Universal’ were the three-peat wins from 1992 to 1994. Paola, Paula Andrea and Carolina were just a hair away from clinching the title in their respective years.  These three women has achieved something that has never been achieved since then.

1992 – Paola Turbay
1993 – Paula Andrea Betancourt
1994 – Carolina Gomez
2008 – Taliana Vargas
2015 – Ariadna Gutierrez
2017 – Laura Gonzalez Ospina

Colombia has the same number of 1st runner up wins in Miss Universe as Venezuela. Would this number change in the next few years? Well, we would just have to find out wouldn’t we?

PhotoCollage of the Day: Olivia Culpo gets Naked (Again)

Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo gets naked… again.

This isn’t the first time we have seen former Miss Universe winner strip down to nothing. She first bared all in a fashion spread with Treats! Magazine. The now 25 year-old beauty queen-model bared it all for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. She is one of several women who bared it all for the “In Her Own Words” shoot, where words are painted on to her bare skin.

A snippet from Harper’s Bazaar explained the concept of the pictorial…
In Her Own Words is a continuation and evolution of the essence of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. It is a platform that allows the voice, the strength and the passion of these women to be expressed in the rawest form…on the naked body…with all the artistic and creative control left to them. With a stripped down studio and team of all females, we handed over the control to the women who are our brand. We believed in, supported and encouraged them to become a canvas and share their truth.
Will we see her baring it all again in the future? Would we even care?

#MANicMondays: Mister Global 2017 Pedro Henrique Gicca

At 6’6″ with blue eyes and a killer bod, who wouldn’t give Pedro Henrique Gicca a second look. The now 30 year old winner (he was born in Sao Paulo on August 28, 1987) holds a degree in electrical engineering. He was actually a replacement candidate and only received 2 weeks training prior to his participation in Mister Global. The finals was held at Chiangmai Hall in Chiang Mai, Thailand where Pedro bested 27 other candidates for the title…

Sizzling hot and extremely good looking!

PhotoCollage of the Day: Miss Earth 2015, Angelia Ong

For some these photos of Miss Earth 2015 Angelia Gabrena Ong might still be new but not for some of us who follow designer Leo Almodal’s Instagram account. Plus I just wanted an excuse to put one of my favorite Miss Philippines Earth & Miss Earth winners on the blog again (insert appropriate emoticon here)…

This photo was actually released several months ago as part of a shoot with other Miss Earth winners Katherine Espin and Jamie Herrell…

The photo on the left was just a recent release… although the shoot is perhaps almost three years old.
In this pic, Angelia is actually wearing her winning Miss Earth gown (pictured in the collage prior). This cropped close up shot focused on the former ME winners lovely face.
