Heavenly Bodies Met Gala 2018: The Best Dressed

Every first Monday of May, the Metropolitan Museum brings together an exhibition of fashion with an opening gala/night that is dubbed to be the Superbowl of Fashion. This year’s event was so magnanimous that it is considered one of the biggest Met Gala to date. It is no wonder that days after, it still floods social media with almost a million tags on Instagram.

So today I am putting up a list of my picks of the best dressed (according to theme) women in the event.

Zendaya in Atelier Versace. This is my personal pick for the Best Dressed celeb of the night. It wasn’t overkill but it delivered the message well. Her armor outfit reminded me of the Dior FW 2006 haute couture collection by John Galliano…
Jennifer Lopez in Balmain… Gigi Hadid in Versace…
Lana del Rey channeling the Our Lady of Sorrows in Gucci, while Priyanka Chopra was going ‘Knights Templar’ in Ralph Lauren…
Stella Maxwell is all Divine Mother in Moschino while Amanda Seyfried was an angelic vision in Prada…
Blake Lively was fully decked in Atelier Versace while Rose Huntington went simple in Ralph Lauren…
Katy Perry stole the red carpet with her massive wings, she is wearing Versace. Star of the night was undoubtedly Rihanna in her Papal outfit by Maison Martin Margiela by John Galliano.

PhotoCollage of the Day: Farah Abu Accessories by Farah Abu

The PhotoCollage of the Day feature today is on the very talented accessory designer from Mindanao: Farah Abu.

I would be totally honest in saying that the first time I met her, I was speechless with her sense of style. Wearing a simple LBD accentuated with a very fancy body jewelry and chic earrings, she stood out during the national costume shoot of then Binibini 20 Catriona Gray. Little did we know then that she together with Jearson Dimavivas and Jojo Bragais would be making the outfit that would win the Pitoy Moreno award for Best National Costume in Binibining Pilipinas 2018.

Here is the designer in her show in the US… and yes that on the far right is Alaiza Malinao

As a tribute to each of these talented designers, I am featuring them one by one on the blog. Visit her official Facebook page at Farah Abu Accessories by Farah Abu. But in the meantime, check out these lovely creations of hers…

PhotoCollage of the Day: The Miss Universe 1st Runners Up from Colombia

Today’s photocollage features the six Colombian women who almost became Miss Universe.

The first trio of ‘Virreina Universal’ were the three-peat wins from 1992 to 1994. Paola, Paula Andrea and Carolina were just a hair away from clinching the title in their respective years.  These three women has achieved something that has never been achieved since then.

1992 – Paola Turbay
1993 – Paula Andrea Betancourt
1994 – Carolina Gomez
2008 – Taliana Vargas
2015 – Ariadna Gutierrez
2017 – Laura Gonzalez Ospina

Colombia has the same number of 1st runner up wins in Miss Universe as Venezuela. Would this number change in the next few years? Well, we would just have to find out wouldn’t we?

PhotoCollage of the Day: Olivia Culpo gets Naked (Again)

Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo gets naked… again.

This isn’t the first time we have seen former Miss Universe winner strip down to nothing. She first bared all in a fashion spread with Treats! Magazine. The now 25 year-old beauty queen-model bared it all for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. She is one of several women who bared it all for the “In Her Own Words” shoot, where words are painted on to her bare skin.

A snippet from Harper’s Bazaar explained the concept of the pictorial…
In Her Own Words is a continuation and evolution of the essence of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. It is a platform that allows the voice, the strength and the passion of these women to be expressed in the rawest form…on the naked body…with all the artistic and creative control left to them. With a stripped down studio and team of all females, we handed over the control to the women who are our brand. We believed in, supported and encouraged them to become a canvas and share their truth.
Will we see her baring it all again in the future? Would we even care?

#MANicMondays: Mister Global 2017 Pedro Henrique Gicca

At 6’6″ with blue eyes and a killer bod, who wouldn’t give Pedro Henrique Gicca a second look. The now 30 year old winner (he was born in Sao Paulo on August 28, 1987) holds a degree in electrical engineering. He was actually a replacement candidate and only received 2 weeks training prior to his participation in Mister Global. The finals was held at Chiangmai Hall in Chiang Mai, Thailand where Pedro bested 27 other candidates for the title…

Sizzling hot and extremely good looking!

PhotoCollage of the Day: Miss Earth 2015, Angelia Ong

For some these photos of Miss Earth 2015 Angelia Gabrena Ong might still be new but not for some of us who follow designer Leo Almodal’s Instagram account. Plus I just wanted an excuse to put one of my favorite Miss Philippines Earth & Miss Earth winners on the blog again (insert appropriate emoticon here)…

This photo was actually released several months ago as part of a shoot with other Miss Earth winners Katherine Espin and Jamie Herrell…

The photo on the left was just a recent release… although the shoot is perhaps almost three years old.
In this pic, Angelia is actually wearing her winning Miss Earth gown (pictured in the collage prior). This cropped close up shot focused on the former ME winners lovely face.

#MANicMondays: Mister Global Chile 2018

Chile is sending another hot hunk with a gorgeous face for Mister Global 2018!

22-year-old Mister Chile 2017/ Mister Global Chile 2018 Italo Nicolas Robles will be Chile’s representative at the 5th edition of the male pageant to be held in Thailand this coming July. He stands 6’1″tall and is a Commercial Engineering student at Universidad Andrés Bello. Will he top last year’s 3rd runner up of fellow Chilen Fabian Vera this year?

Pitoy Moreno: Farewell to a Binibining Pilipinas Stalwart

Sad news upon receiving the passing of Binibining Pilipinas stalwart and Fashion Czar of Asia, Jose “Pitoy” Moreno. He was 87 years old.

In memory and in salute to his contributions to Philippine pageantry, this post is a photo-collage of his works during his stint at Bb. Pilipinas.

This gown was the gown worn by Binibining Pilipinas Universe Charlene Gonzales during the Bb. Pilipinas 1994 pageant held in November 1993. The national pageant was moved earlier due to preparations for the 1994 Miss Universe pageant. The gown was later worn by Karylle during the Metro Society Tribute show for Pitoy.
Pitoy dressed up Bb. Pilipinas Universe 1993 Melinda “Dindi” Gallardo both in Binibining Pilipinas and in Miss Universe. He later revealed in a 1994 article with Inquirer that Dindi “had no business loosing in Miss Universe” that year… Dindi was a favorite in Mexico as she was seen at the front of the stage during the opening. In the 90’s most of the crown favorites and MU favorites were placed at the front of the stage.
In 2013, during the 50th Anniversary of the pageant, the #BinibiniGold candidates were dressed up in creations of the Fashion Czar during the annual Jag Fashion Show. It was said that this was the time when pageant fans noticed SMA clapping for Ariella Arida who was later to win Miss Universe Philippines.
During the Alfreado Barraza years of BPCI (circa 1999-2014) only in 2012 did we see Pitoy Moreno’s creation as a national costume in Miss Universe.  Note that the crown worn by Janine would later be used as the Bb. Pilipinas Supranational crown. Way before Barraza up until the mid 90’s, most of the Philippine reps to Miss Universe wore national costumes by the Fashion Czar of Asia.
This costume is a mix of Maranao influences with a malong ornately decorated in chinoiserie embroidery (made famous worldwide through the Manton de Manila). Not known to many, aside from Miss Universe Margie Moran (who worn this for a Philippine Tatler spread), the gown part was previously worn by Jeanette Fernando in Bb. Pilipinas 1993 and Kristine Florendo in 1997.
One of the most iconic costumes ever designed by Pitoy Moreno is this Manobo and T’boli inspired costume. Worn by Bb. Pilipinas 1st runner up Ali Forbes at the Binibini Gold fashion show, this was also paraded in a tribute show to Pitoy several months before. This iconic pageant national costume worn by Charlene Gonzales in Miss Universe 1994 is the only Philippine costume to win the Best in National Costume award in MU.
