Is There a Need for a Male Alpha Pageant List?

Back in 2016, in our old Sash Factor blog, we have written an article regarding the Alpha pageant for male pageants. That concept didn’t fly with the fans.

It was discussed that male pageantry does not command the same level of respect as the more established female pageants; hence an Alpha list is too difficult to sell. As compared to female pageants, male pageants are fairly young as most male pageants were borne in the late 90s and early 2000s. There were numerous allegations of sexual misconduct, crown-buying and fixing, cash prizes never awarded, and shady business practices that marred the male pageant industry. And these are possibly the reasons why an Alpha status doesn’t stick with male pageants.

But is it time for everyone to reconsider having a list for the Male Alpha Pageants?

Mister World – established in 1996, this is one of the oldest and longest running male pageants around. The competition is originally held every other year. So far the competition has 10 winners since it was established.

Manhunt International – is the oldest existing male competition established in 1993. The annual competition has skipped 7 editions in its 26 year history.

Mister International – the annual male pageant was established in 2006 and has been consistently held until it skipped a year in 2017. Paul Iskandar reigned from 2016-2017 until he passed his title to Seung Hwan Lee in April 30, 2018.

Mister Supranational – one of the youngest established male pageants but certainly one of the glossiest in terms of its finals. The competition was established in 2016 and has 4 winners so far.

Mister Global – established in 2014 the Thai-owned pageant has had six editions so far.

Mister Gay World – this male pageant is exclusive for gay males and has been around since 2009.

Personally, there is no need to create an Alpha list for male pageants, at least NOT YET. Here’s why.
First is that male pageants need to clean up its act. If a long running male pageant has allegations of ‘fixing the winner’ to their favorites, or if another long running male pageant has alleged sexual favors being exchanged behind the scenes, then you know that the male pageant industry as a whole need to be run honorably and as clean as possible. There have been allegations of winners not receiving their cash prizes long after their reigns are over. There are also rumors of male pageant winners who did not sign their contracts with international orgs due to unfair compensation.
The male pageant industry still has long ways to go in terms of having a respectably run male pageant that is both consistently staged and with enough post-coronation activities for the winner. Mister Supranational is on its way in terms of how the pageant is run but there are areas still in need of improvement and inclusion. Among the male pageants currently in existence, the Mister Supranational is perhaps comes on top of the list in male pageants despite it being around for only 4 years. Mister World has been held inconsistently held and is deemed as a poor brother to the Miss World pageant. It is also unclear how they are judged during the finals night to bring about a winner. Manhunt International’s long hiatus in between its staging has damaged its popularity when it used to be the top male competition in the late 90s to early 2000s.

All of this contributes to our opinion that an Alpha status for male pageants is yet too early and premature.

How about you? Is it time to revisit the idea of creating a Male Alpha Pageant list?

Sashes&Scripts’ Faves for Mister Supranational 2018

The candidates of Mister Supranational this year boasts of a number of strong winnable guys that it is quite difficult to just narrow it down to just 10 strong candidates on our list. So instead we’ve listed 12 of the guys that we feel to have the biggest chances of bringing home the title this year.

Top 12
Puerto Rico, José Alfredo Galarza
Venezuela, Jeudiel Condado Griman
India, Prathamesh Maulingkar
Thailand, Kevin Dasom
Netherlands, Ennio Fafieanie
Colombia, Andres Mejia Vallejo
Top 6 Picks
USA, Nicholas Kotselas
Mexico, Alejandro Garcia
Poland, Jakub Kucner

Top 3 Picks (alphabetical order)
Brazil, Samuel Costa
Philippines, Marco Poli
Slovak Republic, Jan Palko
In all honesty, these three guys are personal favorites for the title. In as much as I am rooting for Marco Poli of the Philippines to win, it is also undeniable that there are a number of strong competition specially with Brazil, Slovak Republic and even with the guys from USA & Mexico. Samuel Costa is a strong candidate specially with the past two winners coming from Latin America. Having a strong following from that pageant-crazed part of the world would mean great support for the 3-year old pageant. Slovakia’s Jan Palko is also a strong candidate with his chiseled physique and very camera-friendly face. Marco’s biggest advantage is the fact that he can draw support for the pageant through the Filipino fans and with his Italian background. That would make him very palatable and marketable to a wide audience. At this point, all we can say is may the best man win!

#MANicMondays: Mister Supranational Slovakia 2018, Jan Palko

One of the sexiest men competing in Mister Supranational 2018 is this hunk of stud, Jan Palko.
Based in Trencin, Slovakia, Jan Palko is a fitness coach and a personal trainer by profession. He also dabbles in modeling with his impressive stature, standing at 6’2 3/4″ tall. This 28 year old is today’s feature on the blog!

Warning though, there are some artistic nudes ahead on this post and we urge you to open with discretion… Continue reading “#MANicMondays: Mister Supranational Slovakia 2018, Jan Palko”

Rome Phanuphong as the Asian Christian Gray

NSFW Warning! For mature audiences only! Before you proceed further, please note that some photos in this post are very provocative (to put it mildly) and may not be best to be seen in your work office computer…
Mister Supranational Thailand 2016 Rome Phanuphong Wanthamat posed for Harder Magazine Issue 07 in a steamy S&M/ Bondage themed shoot. The Thai hunk never shied away from steamy and racy shoots as is shown in various stages of dress (or total lack of)… Last warning before the jump! My Mister World Philippines 2018 Picks

Height is might, that is specially true in male pageants. On average, international winners tend to be at around 6’0″-6’1″ in height. So it is no surprise that the tallest guys are the ones on top of my list.

Before we get to our top 2 pick, here are three guys completing our top 5 for Mister World Philippines 2018. I might add that any of these three hunks would be a great rep in Mister Eco International.
* JB Saliba – he is all man and that is his best physical asset. This 5’10” hunk is competing against ‘boys’ and that is why he is my wildcard pick for the Mister World Philippines title.
* Robin Hanrath – standing at 5’10” and blessed with a boyish charm, this guy is definitely the best face in the competition. He is definitely the runaway winner for the Mister Photogenic award if there is such an award. He is my personal fave for the Mister Eco-International.
* Ricardo de Jesus – I remember this hunk from the Mister United Continents pageant in 2015. He stands  5’11” and his advantage is his very Filipino features. I have him as my Mister Supranational Philippines alternate.

Now on to my top two. Since both Mister Supranational and Mister World are two of the biggest names in male pageants, it would be fitting to send the two tallest candidates there. Either pageants would be great for the 6’4″ Marco Poli and the 6’3″ Ameen Sardouk. Personally I would prefer Ameen’s similar facial features with Andrew Wolff for Mister World. I know that Marco’s impressive height will be much appreciated in Mister Supranational. But I also think that Marco would be a good opening salvo in MW as he seems to have the polished looks that the pageant prefers. Eitherway, I would be fine who wins which as long as the two would end up with the top titles in the pageant.

Gabriel Correa for Mister Supranational 2017

Baseball athlete and former Mister Venezuela 2015 Gabriel Correa was handpicked to compete for the Mister Supranational 2017 title.

6’2″ Gabriel Jose Correa Guzman was expected to compete in Mister World 2016 but did not push through due to financial reasons. Since he has won until he relinquished his title, he has never competed in the international arena. A stark contrast to his runner up Rafael Angelucci, who was named Mister International Venezuela that year and got to compete in Mister International in Manila.

With the Mister Supranational Venezuela franchise under ND Miguel Mendez, Gabriel’s participation in the Polish male pageant is guaranteed to push through. He will be the second consecutive Mister Venezuela alum to compete after Gustavo Acevedo last year. The finals will be held a day after the Miss Supranational finals, on December 2nd.

My Mister Supranational 2016 Favorites

The inaugural Mister Supranational competition drew in a number of really strong contenders in the pageant this year. I have 3 gents that seemingly in the forefront of the pack: Belarus, India and Poland. I have these three as possible winners of the title with the hunks from Brazil and France as possible spoilers, wildcards as you may.

Here are the full list of my favorites for the title…
1. Poland, Rafal Jonkisz
2. Sergey Bindalov, Belarus
3. Jitesh Thakur, India
4. Brazil, Bruno Vanin
5. France, Bryan Weber
6. Venezuela, Gustavo Acevedo
7. Argentina, Matt Ferrario
8. Thailand, Rome Phanuphong Wanthamat
9. Sweden, Ali Gafori
10. Philippines, AR dela Serna
11. Puerto Rico, Christian Trenche
12. Denmark, Marcus Rosenberg
13. Egypt, Mohamed Medhat
14. Malta, Neil Scerri
15. Netherlands, Rico Malee

Mister Supranational India, Jitesh Thakur

He is one of the most photogenic in his batch and one of the more interesting faces in Mister Supranational… Meet Mister Supranational India, Jitesh Thakur!

Age: 27
Height: 1.83 m/ 6’0″
Hometown: Jaipur
Education/Occupation: Engineer, professional model, actor
Hobbies : Fitness, Martial Arts

In all honesty, I think India will be having another male title this year. Jitesh looks like a real contender for the title.

Mister Supranational Balarus, Sergey Bindalov

Heat up your Tuesday with a certified hunk! Mister Supranational Belarus Sergey Bindalov is arguably one of the best candidates in this year’s competition!

Age: 29
Height: 1.88 m/ 6’2″
Hometown: Mogilev
Education/Occupation : Sales Manager / Model
Hobbies : reading, motorcycles, martial arts

Did you know that he works as a sales manager in a designer label brand in Greece? Some say it was Armani, hence he looks so dapper in his style. He speaks three languages: Belarussian, English and Russian, though it won’t be surprising to hear him speak Greek.
Where do you put this 6’2″ dusky blonde hunk in your list? A possible winner perhaps?

Mister Supranational Philippines, AR dela Serna

Leaving several days ago for the competition, the 6’0” AR dela Serna is expected to be a hit in Poland with his matinee good looks. The youthful looking, square-jawed AR was one of the lads I have previously interviewed in 2015 when he was still a hopeful for Misters of Filipinas. He has bulked up since then and is now going to compete at the inaugural pageant which drew 36 other competitors around the globe.

Age: 23
Height: 1.83 m/ 6’0″
Hometown: Tagbilaran City
Education/Occupation : BA in Business Administration
Hobbies : swimming, reading, going to the gym

AR is expected to get tough competition from the candidates from Poland, Brazil, India and Venezuela. Nevertheless we wish AR the best of luck in the competition.

Mister Supranational Poland, Rafal Jonkisz

He was supposed to be the Polish rep to Mister Universal Ambassador (according to some insiders) this year but suddenly we didn’t see him compete there.

Age: 19
Height: 1.87 m
Hometown: Rzeszow
Education/Occupation : student of Arts, acrobat
Hobbies : acrobatics, video editing, modeling

Earlier this year Rafal was a semifinalist in Mister World after winning the Talent fasttrack. His blonde bedimpled good looks is a sure hit among pageant fans and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him as this year’s winner in Mister Supranational.
