Mister Universal Ambassador 2017 Luong Gia Huy is quite an in-demand model in his home country of Vietnam. He got hist break from the Vietnam Supermodel contest in 2015. The 22 year old model, who stands at 5’11”, was initially compared to KPop superstar Choi Siwon for his looks.
For the second time in a row, I have predicted the winner of Mister Universal Ambassador!
After predicting Aleksa Gavrilovic of Serbia last year, Sashes&Scripts once again predicted the win of Vietnam’s Luong Gia Huy in this year’s competition. The 5’11” soft-spoken “Mister Nice Guy” bested 18 other candidates in the pageant held in Makassar, Indonesia. In a competition where the English-speaking candidates were favorites, the Vietnamese model held his ground and cemented his win in the crucial closed-door personality interviews. This year, the organizers were not only looking for good looks and role-models, they were actively seeking a winner with good personality as well.
Gentlemen of the Philippines winner Paul Guarnes, who was one of the org’s favorites, was named 1st runner up. Paul was a latebloomer in the contest but came along victorious alongside India and Vietnam who were the early frontrunners of the competition. Candidates from Uzbezkistan, Nicaragua, Hungary, Malaysia and Thailand completed the top 10 semi-finalist.

Out of the winners, I have predicted the correct placements of Vietnam, the Philippines and India. I got 4 out of the top 5 and 8 out of the top 10 semifinalists!
On the rare occasions that I am not able to join Sash Factor’s deliberations during the SashPicks, I would usually do my own predictions. This is the case for my list of possible winners for Mister Universal Ambassador 2017. And guess what? My faves are a bit similar to that of the SashPicks albeit some rankin differences.
Here is my list this year… 10. Sweden, Johannes Leonidas 9. Australia, Nathan Howe 8. Nicaragua, Elvis Murillo 7. Malaysia, Anas Dzulkefflee 6. Mexico, Erick Bolivar 5. India, Rohit Jakhar 4. Uzbekistan, Shakhboz Makhmudov 3. Indonesia, Gilbert Pangalila 2. Philippines, Paul Guarnes 1. Vietnam, Luong Gia Huy Yes, it is going to be an Asian domination this year as the reps from Asia came in prepared and polished for the competition. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see anyone in the top 5 list winning the coveted title.
Name: Nathan Howe Country: Australia Height: 6’3″ Eye: — Hair: Brown
Tall, hunky and masculine jawed Nathan Howe of Australia is one of the lesser talked about guys in the competition. Despite that, this Manhunt Australia 2017 3rd placer has an imposing presence in him that can be at times a little intimidating. He is one of the more ‘bulkier’ guys in the contest, perfect for swimwear shoot but difficult to book for runway shows.
Assessment: Entering the semis would be easy and if he manages to crack the top 5 or 6 of the competition, he can breeze thru an easy top 3 placement.
Name: Elvis Murillo Country: Nicaragua Height: 5’11” Eye: Brown Hair: Brown
He is one of the hottest candidates this year, no doubt about it. He was supposed to compete for next year but we’re glad that he was sent this year. His chances of winning is quite high. He is scorching hot, he can dial up the charm and he can manage to look good in long or short hair (though I prefer him with long hair).
Assessment: He could be the spoiler candidate this year and could romp away with the MrUA title.
Name: Andris Varga Country: Hungary Height: 6’2 1/2″ Eye: Blue Gray Hair: Light Brown
Boyish good looks with a body made for modeling. Andris is nicknamed by locals as a “Prince of Disney” with his youthful looks and sweet disposition. At 19 years old he does fit the nickname to a T. My worry about his chances of winning is how he is Europe-based and that might be difficult for him to do his duties as winner (case in point the reigning winner Aleksa Gavrilovic of Serbia). What I do know is that he brings a breath of fresh energy in the competition.
Assessment: Most likely a runner-up position, winning the title might be a bit unlikely.
Several days before the finals of the Mister Universal Ambassador 2017, we feature one more Sashes&Scripts Leaderboard before we reveal the final picks. This new leaderboard follows the latest developments in the competition as we draw closer to the finals on October 6th.

Anas Dzulkefflee, Malaysia 8. Johannes Leonidas, Sweden 9. Erick Bolivar, Mexico 10. Carlos Marquez Saez, Spain & Prabesh Jha, Nepal
Stay tuned here in the blog as we reveal our final selection closer to the Finals night.
Name: Luong Gia Huy Country: Vietnam Height: 5’11″ Eye: Brown Hair: Black
He might be flying low in the radar of pageant fans but my gut instinct tells me that he can do better than his predecessor in terms of placement. This guy has boatloads of charm that he easily gets people to get chummy with him. It also helps that he does have a photogenic and friendly face. He doesn’t look intimidating unlike other competitors in his batch. He may have limited English but he does try his best to communicate.
Assessment: A sure locked-in for a top 5 placement, winning the title is not impossible.
Name: Gilbert Pangalila Country: Indonesia Height: 6’1″ Eye: Brown Hair: Black I prefer Gilbert when he smiles. He looks more manly when he does (his full lips when he pouts is a bit feminine), so I suggest that he smile more often in photoshoots. This hunky Indonesian is one of the guys that has the better proportioned musculature for modeling. Hopefully he does not bulk up as his current musculature looks just fine. His rounded almond shaped eyes give him a youthful look but his body screams oh-so-manly… Assessment: This time I believe that at least a semifinalist spot is reserved for him in the contest. He mush then make sure to really work the finals to get a top 5 finish.
Name: Shakhboz Makhmudov Country: Uzbekistan Height: 6’1″ Eye: Brown Hair: Black
This is not the first time that Shakhboz has competed internationally. He first competed in Face of Central Asia modeling competition, where he ended up as 1st runner up. This year, he has one of the more interesting faces in the competition. His face is to die for and I would say that he is arguably the best face in this year’s batch. He has this Marlon Stockinger- Ricardo Cepeda vibes to him that adds sexual energy without taking off any clothes. His graying temples adds to his charms. As a matter of fact he seems to fit the MrUA winner’s mold, physically that is.
Assessment: Most likely a runner up in the pageant, possible Mister Universal Ambassador winner.
Name: Rohit Jakhar Country: India Height: 6’1″ Eye: Brown Hair: Dark Brown Despite my personal error of not noticing him during the first Mister Universal Ambassador Leaderboard, I am now seeing that this 21 year old model. I believe that he could easily be the first Asian winner of the Indonesian-based competition. With his commanding height and presence coupled with his communication skills, I have no doubt that he could bring home another win for India (after successive wins in other male international competition). Assessment: Definitely a winner material, lowest possible placement is a top 5 finish for me…
Name: Carlos Marquez Saez Country: Spain Height: 6’1″ Eye: Hazel/ green Hair: Brown
Smoldering good looks and a body to die for, Carlos could give any of the candidates a run for their money this year. Not surprising since he has one of the best physiques in this batch, a nod to his winning Best Body at the nationals in Spain. It also note worthy to mention that he looks good on pics as well. I am a bit hesitant though on his ability to communicate in English and be an effective spokesperson, although that wouldn’t be much of an issue. This 28 year old is really serving the heat and is muy caliente!
Assessment: I am still quite unsure where to place him as a runner up or the winner but a top 5 finish is very highly likely.
Name: Paul Guarnes Country: Philippines Height: 5’10” Eye: Brown Hair: Black
Paul is competing following a very strong representation of Andrea Biondo last year. While it might be difficult to replicate Andrea’s feat (due to a very limited time-frame of preparations), he does have the charms that could work to his advantage. Paul looks great with a lesser smile, he needs to dial down his smile so that his eyes don’t become to chinky and to control his smile to look less gummy. He looks great with his trademark smolder, he has sensual eyes and he should use that more often. All of this could have been addressed early on if there was enough time to polish him further… Nevertheless it’s not too late to dial up more heat in the like he did during the Gentlemen of the Philippines competition .
Assessment: A guaranteed semi-finals could be in the offering but he can definitely work his way up to a top 5 or even a runner up finish.
Name: Erick Bolivar Country: Mexico Height: 6’2″ Eye: Brown Hair: Dark Brown
If at first glance he looks familiar, that is is because he competed against Mister Mexico World Aldo Esparza in 2016. That conquest landed him a top 5 finish and now he finds himself Mexico’s rep to Mr. Universal Ambassador. Erick is arguably one of the hottest guys in the batch and that should guarantee him a shot at the title. His clean shaven pics actually shows how gorgeous he is and I think he looks better without the facial hair. He also needs to make his curls look more tamed to have that polished look. If he does this he will have a cleaner and more winnable look as he goes into the finals.
Assessment: I would say that he is a shoo-in for the top 5 and could possibly find himself with the MrUA title this year.
Despite a lower turnout of candidates this year, the Mister Universal Ambassador still manages to attract a whole lotta bunch of hunks in the competition.
Meet the 10 guys who made it into the first Sashes&Scripts Leaderboard 1. Luong Gia Huy, Vietnam 2. Erick Bolivar, Mexico 3. Shakhboz Makhmudov, Uzbekistan 4. Andris Varga, Hungary 5. Carlos Marquez Saez, Spain 6. Nathan Howe, Australia 7. Elvis Murillo, Nicaragua 8. Anas Dzulkefflee, Malaysia 9. Paul Guarnes, Philippines 10. Johannes Leonidas, Sweden
