#MANicMondays: Male Pageant Titleholders of 2017

There was an overabundance of male pageant competitions last year. And we couldn’t keep up with all of them. Nevertheless, we list down the 2017 winners of male international pageants…

Man of the World – Mustafa Galal Elezali, Egypt
Man of the Year – Parinya Yaochueang, Thailand
Manhunt International – Truong Ngoc Tinh, Vietnam
Men Universe Model – Kevin Montes, Puerto Rico
Mister Gay World – John Raspado, Philippines (it is worthy addition to add the only big name male pageant for gays into the list in recognition of the LGBTQ community)
Mister Global – Pedro Gicca, Brazil

Mister Grand International – Michael Angelo Skyllas, Australia
Mister International – Paul Iskandar, Lebanon (the 2016 pageant was moved due to the demise of the King of Thailand where the pageant was supposed to be held. Hence, Paul is considered here as the 2017 titleholder as well)
Mister National Universe – Pankaj Ahlawat, India
Mister Supranational – Gabriel Correa, Venezuela
Mister Tourism World – Joshua Lennet, Borneo
Mister Universal Ambassador – Luong Gia Huy, Vietnam
Mister World – Rohit Khandelwal, India (since the pageant is held every other year, Rohit is considered winner for 2016-2017)

This 2017 no contests were held for Mister Tourism International, Mister United Continents and Mister Model International. The Mister United Continents pageant is to be held in January of 2018 and Mister Model International will be held in Miami, Florida on March 10th 2018.

Luong Gia Huy in an Asiana-themed Fashion Spread

Mister Universal Ambassador 2017 Luong Gia Huy is quite an in-demand model in his home country of Vietnam. He got hist break from the Vietnam Supermodel contest in 2015. The 22 year old model, who stands at 5’11”, was initially compared to KPop superstar Choi Siwon for his looks.

Luong Gia Huy is a veteran model in Vietnam…

Mister Universal Ambassador 2017 Winners!

For the second time in a row, I have predicted the winner of Mister Universal Ambassador!

After predicting Aleksa Gavrilovic of Serbia last year, Sashes&Scripts once again predicted the win of Vietnam’s Luong Gia Huy in this year’s competition. The 5’11” soft-spoken “Mister Nice Guy” bested 18 other candidates in the pageant held in Makassar, Indonesia. In a competition where the English-speaking candidates were favorites, the Vietnamese model held his ground and cemented his win in the crucial closed-door personality interviews. This year, the organizers were not only looking for good looks and role-models, they were actively seeking a winner with good personality as well.

Gentlemen of the Philippines winner Paul Guarnes, who was one of the org’s favorites, was named 1st runner up. Paul was a latebloomer in the contest but came along victorious alongside India and Vietnam who were the early frontrunners of the competition. Candidates from Uzbezkistan, Nicaragua, Hungary, Malaysia and Thailand completed the top 10 semi-finalist.

Mr Universal Ambassador Oceania – Australia, Nathan Howe
Mr Universal Ambassador Europe – Hungary, Andris Varga
Mr Universal Ambassador Africa – Algeria
Mr Universal Ambassador Asia – India,  Rohit Jakhar
Mr Universal Ambassador America – Nicaragua, Elvis Murillo
Mr Photogenic – Uzbekistan, Shakhboz Makhmudov
Mr Congeniality – Malaysia, Anas Dzulkefflee
4th runner up – India, Rohit Jakhar
3rd runner up – Indonesia, Gilbert Pangalila
2nd runner up – Sweden, Johannes Leonidas
1st runner up – Philippines, Paul Guarnes
Mister Universal Ambassador 2017 – Vietnam, Luong Gia Huy
Out of the winners,  I have predicted the correct placements of Vietnam, the Philippines and India. I got 4 out of the top 5 and 8 out of the top 10 semifinalists!

Luong Gia Huy for Mister Universal Ambassador 2017

Name: Luong Gia Huy
Country: Vietnam
Height: 5’11″
Eye: Brown
Hair: Black

He might be flying low in the radar of pageant fans but my gut instinct tells me that he can do better than his predecessor in terms of placement. This guy has boatloads of charm that he easily gets people to get chummy with him. It also helps that he does have a photogenic and friendly face. He doesn’t look intimidating unlike other competitors in his batch. He may have limited English but he does try his best to communicate.

Assessment: A sure locked-in for a top 5 placement, winning the title is not impossible.
