Binibining Pilipinas 2021 Frontrunners

34 lovely captivating candidates, 4 Binibining Pilipinas crowns at stake.

After the long hiatus of the Binibining Pilipinas pageant brought by the global Coronavirus pandemic, the release of the official candidates’ latest headshots for this year’s pageant saw a vast improvement from the ladies. But there are a a handful of ladies that are currently standing out.

It may be too early to say that these are the ladies to watch out for in this year’s competition, but we firmly believe that we’ve got a good feeling coming off from these ladies…

Handpicked Filipina Reps for 2020 International Pageants?

In the event that the NCov-19 pandemic in the Philippines doesn’t get resolved by the months of May or June, we believe that national pageant organizations should hand-pick reps for the 2020 pageant season.

Having a pre-selected set of Filipina representatives for the 2020 international pageant season can be a good solution in case that the postponed national pageants should be pushed back further. And this also opens the gates for having us crown 2021 reps with the current set of national candidates, paving the way for a longer prep time like Colombia, Venezuela and other Latin countries do in the 90’s to mid-2010’s.

A short disclaimer: Each of our handpicked ladies is based on this blogger’s observations on who might be a great fit for the international competitions as of this moment. They are not yet our final picks but rather possible representatives to some of the international pageants. Also with over a dozen international pageants, we only focused on only 5. This is already a long read with just 5 and adding more pageants to discuss would be exhausting for you to read. Continue reading “Handpicked Filipina Reps for 2020 International Pageants?”

Best Photos: Official Bb. Pilipinas T-Shirt Portraits

This is how you level up in a pageant!
The Binibining Pilipinas pageant continues to give reasons why they still are the most prestigious pageant in the country.

Looking at how the 40 candidates look so fresh and vibrant in their photos wearing the official Binibining Pilipinas shirt reminds us that well selected and well edited photos are still a MUST in pageants. Pageant organizations should invest on high quality shots of their candidates so that they are always presented in a proper manner.

Truth be told it was difficult to narrow down the list to just 12 as over-all the photos of the candidates well really good. It’s the proverbial ‘walang tapon‘ if we might add.
We would like to mention several ladies who almost made it in our top 12 list like Patricia Babista, Lois Badando, Shaira Rona, Vianca Marcelo, Jash Dimaculangan, Honey Cartasano and Faith Garcia. With that being said, let’s list down the 12 ladies that did best in their official Binibining Pilipinas shirt photos…

1. Samantha Bernardo – she gave the most unique pose and it paid off. She is perhaps the only one to do a 3/4 view from the back which showcased enough of her body and face.
2. Hannah Arnold – simple works and Hannah gave us simple but strong. The focal point is her face and she gave good face in the pic. Had her pose be a little more strong and created more curves, she would have been our top pick. It would have been a stronger image had the body pose been equally strong as her facial expression. 2nd Leaderboard for Binibining Pilipinas 2020

Proving itself to be the premier national pageant in the country, the Binibining Pilipinas pageant has rolled out activity one after the other over the past 3 weeks.
From the amazing Talent Show, to the Gateway Museum tour, art and painting workshops, down to the flower crown making at the Farmers’ Garden, the Binibinis continued to impress pageant media and fans alike. In those activities, we’ve observed the ladies that are continually pulling away from the competition.

Who are the ladies that are performing well in the recent Binibining Pilipinas activities this past weeks? Here are the ladies that comprise our 2nd Leaderboard!

  1. Honey Grace Cartasano
  2. Karen Laurrie Mendoza
  3. Hannah Arnold
  4. Vickie Marie Rushton
  5. Gabrielle Basiano
  6. Maureen Montagne
  7. Meiji Cruz
  8. Patrizia Garcia
  9. Samantha Bernardo
  10. Vianca Marcelo
  11. Faith Garcia
  12. Danica Joy Acuña
  13. Alexandra Mae Rosales
  14. Hazel Joy Ortiz
  15. Carina Cariño

By this point, some of the girls are already showing signs of stress on their lovely faces and some are already suffering break outs. So we strongly advice on a skincare routine for the ladies.

We’d like to comment on several girls who is improving consistently. Gabby Basiano is starting to pull ahead and finding herself among the frontrunner category. She is always on point style-wise and her skin is absolutely glowing. Samantha Bernardo’s low key gameplan is taking a bit of getting use to, but you’d know she’s got some tricks up her sleeve. Vickie Rushton and Maureen Montagne are some of the girls who are always glowing in person and in their daily activities. Loving the energy that Alexandra Mae Rosales is exuding, fresh and young but very much one of the underdogs to look out for. Then we have Meiji Cruz who is starting to get more noticed as the days go by. We are also on the low-key lookout on Alexangela “Gila” Salvador and Samantha Panlilio as these two are among the well-spoken ladies.

What do you think of our list? Let us know if there is any of the ladies that you think should be included on the comments below!

The Problem with Maureen Montagne Is…

Binibini #11 Maureen Montagne is one of the high caliber beauties that is competing in the Binibining Pilipinas pageant. And she is the hottest pageant topic these days.

Her surprise application for BBP2020 made pageant fans wonder about her reasons why not Miss Universe Philippines. During the application period she has answered this with a simple statement: it was the legacy of the Binibining Pilipinas pageant that made her decide to apply. But her decision to join BBP and of course switch camps to Kagandahang Flores had painted a target on her back. This is why she is such a hot topic these days.

Maureen is in a unique position being one of the most buzzed about contestant at the national levels. It is no wonder that she is generating so much praise (and alongside it hate too). More so that she can be placed with any of the BBP titles and is expected to do well.

Maureen for Miss Globe – in all honesty a lot of pageant fans would feel that it would be a waste to send her to this pageant considering she is of Alpha pageant caliber. Personally we wouldn’t want her in this pageant considering that there seems to be a wide pendulum swing on what the pageant looks for in a winner. It might be too much of a risk for her to be sent in MG.

Maureen for Miss Grand International – in all honesty if we want our first Grand title, then maybe she is just the best girl to be sent into this pageant. She ticks off everything that this pageant seems to look for in a winner: gorgeous face, great body, strong presence and pasarela. But then again, on a personal note, there is no guarantee that a crown is waiting for her in this pageant. So why would we risk someone of her caliber here?

Maureen for Miss Intercontinental – she’d definitely do well in this pageant of German origins. However, the Philippines just won a couple of years ago and hoping for a winner this soon might be a tad more difficult to achieve.

Maureen for Miss Supranational – personally, we feel that this title is so perfect for her. Her ability to switch from girl-next-door to a sultry diva in a snap would be great match for this pageant. IMHO, it is high time to bring back the blue crown of this Polish-owned pageant to the Philippines. And Maureen would be the perfect girl to do just that.

Maureen for Miss International – the only thing needed for her to do to claim this title is to show more of her sweet, down-to-earth side. The rest of the packaging and styling can follow suit. With her doll-like face, she would definitely be a standout in Tokyo.

Maureen’s biggest problem is that she fits perfectly well with all of the Binibining Pilipinas title at stake. That is a huge problem because you wouldn’t want her wasted on a pageant that won’t fit her personality and when she could be sent to a much more challenging one at par to her caliber and character.
The unique quality of the Binibining Pilipinas pageant is that the deliberation process would assign what the org and judges might believe to be the optimal crown that you can win internationally. And we have to rely and trust on their 50+ years of experience in pageantry in the hopes that the perfect title would be given to Maureen that is truly fit for her.

Binibining Pilipinas 2020 Talent Show Standouts

The criteria for the Binibining Pilipinas judging still places 50% value to beauty of face. And there was no shortage of beautiful ladies in the BBP 2020 Talent show.
But if we are to narrow down the ladies that stood out during the Binibining Pilipinas 2020 Talent show, it will all boil down to these 4 ladies…

Vickie Marie Rushton
She is the proverbial ‘face that could launch a thousand ships’ but it is her demeanor that endears her to fans. Vickie isn’t the overly aggressive type in pageants but she still does get noticed. And this is very evident after the show where it took almost 30 minutes for the crowd around her to subside. The 5’6″ stunner gamely posed for pics with her fans and loyal supporters with patience, a trait you’d want in a winner.

Gabrielle “Gabby” Basiano
She’s got the face and the height to be noticed among the bevy of 40 candidates this year. Gabby is quite modelesque owing to her 5’10” frame. She is one of the tallest ladies in the batch this year and it would be a shame to let her potential go to waste. Not a fan of her red dress in the show but her white outfit after made her look more stunning. Gabby might be the sleeper hit in this batch. A Gorgeous Batch for Binibining Pilipinas 2020

Just when you thought that the Philippines has run out of gorgeous ladies to join beauty pageants, you are pleasantly surprised that we’ve got more beauties than you realize.

1. Vickie Marie Rushton – we have no confirmation if and when she submitted her application but there’s no smoke if there’s no fire…

2. Samantha Bernardo – her application styling was so out of her usual peg. She looks more fresh and more relaxed this time. She is bound to win a crown this time around, she is so ripe for it.

3. Honey Grace Cartasano – she shocked everyone with her gorgeous transformation! Then she posted her glamshots in red Leo Almodal gown and we were all sold.

Sashes&Scripts’ Favorites for Miss World Philippines 2018

Year in and year out the Miss World Philippines title would always boil down between 2-3 ladies. It has become quite predictable that those who are frontrunners remain to be the major winner come finals. What is surprising is to see that majority of the ladies in our list this year are among the facially gifted and public speaking savvy of the bunch but are all below 5’8″ tall. Petite but pretty…
The Miss World Philippines winner has traditionally been the one who is most prepared for the Miss World pageant. This year, I may not see one who would cover all bases of the MW fasttracks, but there are a number of ladies that could easily be good representatives to a number of international competitions under the MWP org.

Arienne Calingo – this MWP returnee is perhaps going to be one of the top 5 winners this year. Her 1st runner up placement a couple of years ago is an indication that she can make the requisite splash in the nationals. She might not be my main pick for the MWP crown but she will perhaps end up with one of the crowns.

Alyssa Muhlach Alvarez –  the most commercial face in her batch and is a spoiler for the MWP crown. She is one of the more underrated ladies in the competition but she could pull a major upset from the popular frontrunners for the title. I could also see her with the Miss Eco-International crown with her very friendly face. If her fierce-side is developed, she could be a good RH representative too!

Kim de Guzman – she’s my pick for the Reina HispanoAmericana title as she has the curves that could be appreciated in the pageant. Not only does she look amazing, she also looks taller than her 5’7″ fame with her good body proportions. I think that the RH title is almost tailor-made for her as she has a similar bone structure as reigning winner Teresita Marquez, with a very Asian face and oozing with sex appeal of a Latina.

Katarina Rodriguez – the popular girl to win. She has proven her merit in an international competition and being thirsty for a win could be her major advantage among her batch. Her huge fan-base could be relied on for the internet voting/ multimedia voting. Plus her gift of the gab is also undeniable with her charm and wit. Sending Katarina would be a strategic move to be sent to MW as she can make the MW pageant relevant to Filipino fans once more.

Maureen Montagne – another crown worthy girl that may pull an win for the MWP crown. This pageant veteran is perhaps a better well-rounded option for Sanya this year. Truth be told, she might be the girl that fits the MW mold might look for in a winner. Although her being 26 years old might work against her. So far no 26 year old has won the MW title as they usually prefer girls between 18 to 24 years old. Though I wouldn’t have any issue should she win, in fact my gut tells me she might be the one for MW.

IMHO the main title is between Katarina, Alyssa and Maureen. And it will be heartbreaking to see anyone of them sent to the other pageant which we currently hold the international crowns. Let’s face the fact that back-to-back wins in Miss Eco-International, Miss Multinational and Reina HispanoAmericana is gonna be close to impossible. So whoever is sent to those three pageants will be fighting an uphill battle, after all we should have learned our lesson from the 2013/2014 scenario. I could only hope that despite those blocks, whoever we send to those pageants would still do their median best to bring home the crowns again. And hopefully a second Miss World crown is in the horizon.

Sashes&Scripts’ final leaderboard for the 2018 Century Tuna Superbods (Female division) is going to be a tough one considering the females who are gunning for the title.

Without further ado, here are the five ladies that this blogger feels would be possible winners for this year’s comeptition…
5. Maureen Montagne
4. Faith Garcia
3. Queenie Rehman
2. Christine Balaguer
1. Kim Ross Williams

Bb. Pilipinas 2018 Wishlist: Maureen Montagne

Maureen Montagne is a name that most pageant aficionados are all so familiar with.

When she first competed in Mutya ng Pilipinas several years back, I thought she would be perfect to join Binibining Pilipinas as a follow up. Her joining of Miss USA in 2015 (and her top 15 finish in that pageant) and her 1st runner up finish in Miss World-America just showed how thirsty she is for a crown. Now with murmurs that she is finally joining Bb. Pilipinas 2018 this may be her last chance to secure a national title. After several failed attempts in the US, her joining BBP is something that she should have done a long time ago IMHO. I believed that she would have had a bigger chance of winning in the Philippines than in the US and I am glad she finally gave competing in BBP a chance. I think her beauty will be appreciated more by local tastes than American judges.

The 5’7″ stunner from Chandler, Arizona, took interdisciplinary studies at the Arizona State University. The 24 year old beauty queen is one of the numerous cross-over beauties that is expected to compete in Binibining Pilipinas 2018.
