Just when we thought things have been settled, this new development appears!
Señorita Colombia 2020 Maria Fernanda Aristizabal will not be able to compete in the Miss Universe pageant at all. This was clear after the new Miss Universe Colombia organization posted an announcement on their social media that a selection of a new Colombian rep to Miss Universe will take place this year.
After failing to reach an agreement with the Concurso Nacional de Belleza, the new owners of the MU – Colombia franchise have decided that they will choose a representative, who must be registered on the Miss Universe website by November 1, according to the regulations of the pageant. It was also posted that the MUC organization gave a deadline for an answer from CNB last Saturday or they will make decisions on how they will proceed.
At first it was said that the possibility was considered that María Fernanda would be her country’s representative in Miss Universe. There were even reports that CNB President Raimundo Angulo was in talks with the new MUC organization that the CNB has allowed the participation of Mafe to the MU pageant. It was reported in the El Universal newspaper that both parties are in talks and is working with the CNB Board of Directors to approve Mafe’s participation. In a recent El Universal statement, he clarified further that “No (official) communication has reached me about it, but if they are going to do a contest in Barranquilla, perfect. They are free to do whatever they want. I don’t have to make any statement about it. ”

#queremosveramafeenmissuniverso I really hope that @missuniversecolombiaorg would decide to send @mafearistizabalu to represent Colombia at Miss Universe. . . . . . . . #SashesAndScripts #UltimatePageantBlog #PageantBlog #PageantBlogger #MissUniverse #MissUniverso #mariafernanda #mariafernandaaristizabal #señoritacolombia #senoritacolombia #misscolombia #missuniversecolombia #missuniverso2020 #missuniverse2020 #cnb
When we earlier posted that the two organizations are working things out for Maria Fernanda to be able to compete, we were ecstatic and hopeful. However learning that no official communications were made and that there were allegations that it was CNB who did not respond, made this situation all the more confusing. On CNB’s defense, we understand that calling for a Board of Directors meeting during this time of pandemic might have been difficult and hence wasn’t able to meet the deadline. MUC is also in a rush as a representative must be selected be November 1st. And there might not be enough time to hold a national search during this pandemic…
We are just sad that we will not be seeing Mafe in Miss Universe as we think she would have made Colombia proud. It is unclear if she will be sent to the Miss International competition next year as CNB usually selects a new Colombian queen every September of the year.
