Binibini #1 Dane Felise in Rau Uson-Ablaza National Costume

Rau Uson-Ablaza is a designer-go-to by a number of celebrities and beauty queens (Miss Universe Philippines 2013 Ariella Arida and Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres are just some one of them). And one lucky lady from Binibining Pilipinas 2017 is gonna wear his creations!

Binibini #1 Dane Felise Marasigan is to wear a national costume by Rau that is a fusion of a Barong Tagalog and the Filipiniana terno…  The bodice is embellished with  hand-sewn pearls on lace appliques and the sleeve with lattice-work (that is the criss-crossing pattern) adorned with rhinestones. Pure Piña silk is mainly used on the design. The headdress were inspired by Our Lady of Manaoag.

The Virgo-born stunner looked mighty fine in the costume. It is actually among the top of my list of best national costumes this year. I am particularly liking the Barong Tagalog part of the neckline as it is something that hasn’t been done previously before. Initially, the heads of BPCI had reservations on the design but they were happy upon seeing the finished product.  Rau’s trademark aesthetic has always been clean, non-fussy and sophisticated lines that usually put the wearer into focus instead of the outfit. So it is quite a departure to see him doing something outside of his usual forte. And the result is simply lovely as the costume still compliments Dane yet retains the usual trademark aesthetics that Rau is known for.

By now, everyone would have seen the costume on the Binibining Pilipinas exhibition at the Gateway Cineplex in The Araneta Center. But everyone has to wait the costume being paraded in person to really appreciate it…
